The contributions made by RTTW particpants and donors is valuable and will go towards the upkeep and enhancement of the venue that serves to perpetuate the memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Another year has passed and The Ride is now upon us and it is time again for motorcyclists from near & far to ride together and gather at the National Memorial Arboretum on Saturday the 1st of October 2011 to pay our respects and to remember those who can no longer ride by our side.

This year we have some seven starting points around the country with many hundreds of motorcyclists starting from each of the points. On Saturday you will be riding with thousands of fellow motorcyclists who share your values of Remembrance and Respect.

Each starting place will have clearly identifiable marshals to assist along with full toilet and refreshment facilities to allow riders to rest prior to the organised ride in start.

All rides are timed to ensure a steady flow of arrivals at The National Memorial Arboretum to ensure timely and orderly parking, and to give you plenty of time to explore the beautiful complex of memorials and have lunch before the main remembrance service commences, which will commence at 14:00.

The support That Ride To The wall has received over the last few years from the motorcycling community has been fantastic and quite humbling.

A large number of participants in the ride have always asked how they could do more and were especially keen to get their ride sponsored.
I am very pleased to announce that you can now do this as either an individual or collectively as a Club.

Ride To The Wall has created a fundraising page with Bmy Charity, the most cost effective online fundraising service. They don’t charge any commission which means that more of the money raised goes directly to Ride To The Wall. More details on how they operate can be found on their website:

On this page you will find a step by step guide as to how to set up your own fundraising page. It’s very easy to do and should only take a few minutes, but should you need any assistance Bmy charity have a helpline number that you will find on their website. When you are set up and ready to go please remind your sponsors to use Gift Aid as Ride To The Wall is now a registered charity and Gift Aid significantly enhances the value of the donation at no cost to the donor.

I am excited that this initiative will enhance our ability to raise further funds to help towards the upkeep of the venue that perpetuates the memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can all ride free.

Registration for Voluntary Contributions and the Online Shop is now open

We are launching later than usual this year and thank you for your patience and understanding.

The ever increasing scale of the event and the complexities associated with organizing Ride To The Wall has forced us to undertake a total review of all aspects associated with the Ride To The Wall, all of which has taken considerable time.

As I mentioned in the previous newsletter we are now a registered charity. The new structure will allow more effective operations and will enhance our fund raising capabilities, in particular through the use of the gift aid scheme and I would urge you to make full use of the gift aid scheme as it will increase the value of your contributions significantly.

The recommended voluntary contribution for 2011 will be £7.50. You will receive a year bar for 2011 and your name will be entered in the scroll of honour recognising the contribution you have made and the pride and respect that you show for the sacrifice made by the names on the wall.

Following feedback from numerous participants in Ride To The Wall our range of merchandising has been enhanced with numerous additions for 2011 including items for children. We have also introduced a new design based on the Armed Forces Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum which we have incorporated into items in the 2011 range.

We continue to focus on offering quality products at affordable prices and have worked hard with our suppliers to face the challenges of increased costs in raw materials, the rise in VAT and the rise in postage costs. I am pleased to say that we have not made any significant increases.

Ride To The Wall 2011 Launch

Welcome the official launch of Ride To The Wall 2011

The event brings motorcyclists from near and far together to attend a memorial service at the National Memorial Arboretum on the first Saturday in October, in order to remember those who can no longer ride by our side.

The date for this year is Saturday 1st of October 2011, there are now 100 days to go!

Since the first ride in 2008, through your support and generosity we have raised almost £100,000 for the NMA. The money you have so kindly donated goes towards the upkeep of the stunningly beautiful & peaceful arboretum, which is home to the largest memorial outside of the capital, the Armed Forces Memorial wall.

Ride to The Wall started with 1800 riders in 2008 and saw rider numbers exceed 4000 in 2010 which when added to the non motorcycling participants took total numbers to 15,000 for 2010. The growth and the ever increasing scale of the event and the complexities associated with organizing Ride To The Wall has forced us to undertake a total review of all aspects associated with the Ride To The wall. In order to comply with legislation we were forced to review our legal status and I am pleased to announce that our application for charitable status has been approved by the Charity Commissioner. The new structure will allow more effective operations and will enhance our fund raising capabilities, in particular through the use of the gift aid scheme. The additional workload associated with our change in status has meant that we are launching this year’s event later than usual and thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding.

The increase in numbers of participants has also forced a review of the starting point. For 2011 onwards, Ride To The Wall is evolving into something that has never been done before in the UK, with some seven starting points around the country being utilised to allow riders to gather with kindred spirits on the event and ride together.

Each starting place will have clearly identifiable marshals to assist along with full toilet and refreshment facilities to allow riders to rest prior to the organised ride in start.

Once the departure time is reached marshals will assist with exiting the start point and event marshals will lead riders from every departure point direct to the National Memorial Arboretum.

Arrival at the Arboretum will be timed to allow plenty of time to explore the beautiful complex of memorials and have lunch before the main remembrance service commences, and the staff of the Arboretum will ensure many more things to experience than in previous years.

We have a new website for 2011 with numerous new multimedia features including, web casts and blogs as well as links to Facebook and Twitter. The website also includes the history of Ride To The Wall, a gallery of images from previous years, full details of the start locations with maps, and links to the NMA but to name a few.

Cheque Presentation

Martin Dickinson presents the cheque to
HRH The Duke Kent

Founder, Martin Dickinson, presented a cheque for £52,750 raised in the 2010 event, to His Royal Highness The Duke Kent on 31st March 2011.

The cheque presentation took place at the National Memorial Arboretum, the UK's year-round centre of Remembrance, where motorcyclists gather together each year to pay their respects to our serving and fallen service men and women and in doing so, raise funds solely for the purpose of perpetuating their memory and recognising the sacrifice made.

We were honoured to be able to present this to the Duke of Kent on a sunny day at the foot of the steps of the Armed Forces Memorial. His Royal Highness asked that we extend his thank you to all of the participants of the event.
